UPN Marks 25 Years with SmartHUB Celebration and Further Environmental Progress

United Pallet Network has marked its 25th anniversary with a spectacular fireworks display at its SmartHUB facility, as the pallet network reflects on a quarter century of growth and looks ahead to its next phase of development. The celebratory fireworks display provided a striking backdrop to a milestone that also represents the development of the wider UK Pallet Distribution sector over the past quarter century.

“Twenty-five years gives us a chance to look back at just how much the industry, our customers and UPN itself have changed,” said UPN Managing Director David Brown,

“The fireworks at SmartHUB were a great way of marking the occasion, but the real significance of the anniversary is the people behind the business – our members, colleagues, customers and supply-chain partners who have contributed to the journey. We have always believed that collaboration, technology and service quality need to develop together. That remains just as relevant today as it was when UPN was established in 2001. Reaching 25 years is an important milestone, but it is also an opportunity to consider what the next 25 years might look like.”

The anniversary celebrations coincide with another significant milestone for the business, following the successful completion of UPN’s first annual ISO 14001:2015 surveillance audit. The audit was completed with no non-conformities identified, confirming that UPN’s Environmental Management System continues to meet the internationally recognised standard. The result also provides an indication of how environmental management has become increasingly embedded within the organisation.

During the past year, initiatives have included the adoption of cleaner engines across industrial and business vehicles, improvements in energy and resource efficiency, increased recycling and waste reduction, greater environmental awareness and strengthened environmental management processes. UPN has also continued to measure and reduce its carbon emissions, including achieving a reduction in CO₂ emissions per pallet handled.

“We have always believed that collaboration, technology and service quality need to develop together.”

UPN’s model has remained centred on collaboration between independent regional hauliers, combining local knowledge with national coverage. Alongside its operational development, the network has invested heavily in technology, service improvement and environmental initiatives as expectations across the palletised freight industry have continued to evolve.

Founded in June 2001 with the ambition of creating a strong, service-focused UK pallet network built around IT innovation and service quality, United Pallet Network (UPN) has evolved over the past 25 years into a nationwide operation comprising more than 100 regional haulier members. For UPN, the 25th anniversary represents both a look back at the development of the network since 2001 and a marker for the next stage of its evolution.
